Algonquin Hotel, New York

Location: Algonquin Hotel
The Algonquin is in the center of Midtown Manhattan, within walking distance of many of New York’s attractions. The theatres of Broadway, the midtown business district and the city’s finest shopping and dining are all a short walk from the Algonquin. Landmarks such as Times Square and Rockefeller Center are minutes away, as are the celebrated shops of Fifth Avenue, conveniently reachable with that marvel of New York public transport, the sidewalk.

Description: Algonquin Hotel
Home of the 1920s Round Table literary gatherings, featuring such literary luminaries as Dorothy Parker and Robert Benchley, this legendary hotel offers an unparalleled atmosphere of "old" New York. The Lobby, which still retains the architectural properties, charm and ambiance long associated with this landmark hotel, has been restored with writing desks and antique furniture in deep jewel tones of plum, mahogany, caramel and olive. In 1998, the Algonquin Hotel completed a multi-million dollar historical restoration. The original marble stairs have been polished and layers of paint have been removed from the iron banisters to reveal beautifully detailed ironwork dating from 1902. The literary theme persists in the hallways, which are covered in custom wallpaper, exclusively deigned by "New Yorker" magazine cartoonist Robert Mankoff. All guest rooms, regardless of size, offer handsome, understated furnishings that are designed to be as restful to the eye as the body and modern amenities to ease the burdens of 21st Century travelers. Cocktails and hearty pub fare are served at the Blue Bar. And of course, there is the extraordinary experience of dinner and cabaret at The Oak Room, the Algonquin’s legendary supper club.
